Who we are
Philomathian Religious Books and Gifts has a storied history. It was founded by eleven women as a reading club on Feb. 14, 1907. In 1920, they adopted the name Philomathian (meaning "lover of learning") Club, devoting their meetings entirely to book reports. By 1946, a reading library with eighty-five books was opened. Just two years later it became a church goods store.
Today, The Philomathian carries a complete line of religious articles and gift items. The store is staffed by a group of volunteers. Profits from the store have been donated to many local religious and civic organizations.
